SoCal Crust ID Help

    Greetings NWL,

I am reaching out for some ID help with these crusts I collected on Quercus agrifolia in the Los Osos Oaks Reserve in San Louis Obispo Co.

I put my best guess on the images but there are some inconsistencies with the characteristics I am observing vs what is expected in the lit. I am both Microlichens PNW and the Sonoran Flora.

The first species keys pretty close to Schaereria dolodes in Microlichens PNW but Biatora globulosa in the Sonoran Flora. The spores morphology looks slight off for S. dolodes but perhaps I am mistaken.

The second species lands somewhat easily in Bactrospora, but I am  having a difficult time with them chemistry and making the final distinction between B. acicularis or patellarioides.

Any guidance or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Steve

I'm not sure about the Bactrospora -- need a K/I test to separate the two species that you mentioned. Now sure what you mean by K+G.

The other one looks like Lecidella elaeochroma -- characteristic combination of orangish hypothecium, blue green epihymenium, rather broad spores, and I+ blue tholus.

Schaereria dolodes has spores that are nearly spherica.
