"Apothecia" on Lobaria pulmonaria

    Dear fellow Lichenologists,

I want to ask if these are the apothecia of Lobaria pulmonaria, or a lichenicolous fungi on it. I also observed it on Lobaria linita, or possibly pre-sorediate form of L. pulmonaria. Thank you for your help!

That's definitely a lichenicolous fungus. Lobaria pulmonaria's apothecia are smooth and reddish brown. If you want to track down the fungus, you might start with this database of lichenicolous fungi in the PNW. You can search by host.

Thank you for your help! I think it is Plectocarpon lichenum as I searched it up.
