Anyone have an idea for a workshop for our spring meeting? This year it will be in Eugene, Oregon. Ideas are welcome here, either as something in which you wish to participate or to lead. Ultimately the NWL board will decide, but you can easily influence the decision.

NW Scientific Assoc meets 24-27 March 2020. NWLichenologists usually have a session or two of talks, a workshop, a field trip and other spur-of-the-moment activities. NWSA does cost something to register but it is less than many of the larger organizations. It is also a great place for students to give a talk or poster because the audience is small and supportive!

I agree, it would be good to do this sometime. We actually tried this a couple of decades ago when the meeting was in Bellingham. It went ok, but we didn't really have enough time. With everyone sharing tanks and one fume hood it is challenging to pull it off in half a day.

More recently we had a full-day event for this at OSU and that worked out ok. That was separate from any meeting. As I recall we were able to complete several pairs of plates from start to finish, including interpretation.

There is a fair amount of setup required -- chemicals, tanks, fume hood.

Probably not this year. We did some at last year's meeting. Also I may not be able to attend, not that I am an expert...

Those things are doable for a workshop. If not this year, then maybe next year when NW Science/NWL is in Arcata. Or we could have a separate crust event at Siskiyou Field Institute sometime (I think too late for the 2020 calendar).
