    Hi All,

A student in my latest class at SFI, Larry Rea, sent me this lovely photo of a butterfly perfectly camouflaged among lichens on this rock near Suplee, OR.

Wonderful photo. Lichens seem ideal camouflage for checkerspots. Something that surprised and amazed me was to learn of “lichen moths” (Arctiidae: Lithosiinae) of which there are many species whose larvae feed exclusively on lichens. A photo -  marbled beauty larva | Flickr - Photo Sharing! There is a good discussion of them in Oliver Gilbert’s book “Lichens”. Wonder if there is a good source of information on lichen moths in our area.
