The Forest Service is graciously hosting us at Cave Junction, in the Coast Range of southern Oregon October 1st through 4th. They are trading use of facilities for lichen inventories and FS learning. General plan: we will visit field sites in the mornings and work on specimens in the afternoons and evenings. Leaders: Teresa Bird (USFS), Chelsea Reha (USFS) and Adrienne Kovasi (NWL).

The Forest Service (Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest – Wild Rivers Ranger District) is offering camping space and a conference room available for scope work. Possible spots to visit include:

  • Days Gulch Botanical Area
  • Sucker Creek Trail
  • Whiskey lake/Sanger meadows
  • Slate Creek Road

Facilities:

  • Conference room for microscope work. Camping space in the yard. Ability for campers to shower, cook, flush toilets, charge electronics, etc.
  • Bring your own food or arrange to cooperate with others.
  • Bring your own scopes, reference books, collecting materials, and tools, or cooperate with others on these.
  • If camping doesn’t work for you then Siskiyou Field Institute (10 miles away) is a place to stay that has bedrooms and yurts available for rental. There is a hotel in Cave Junction as well.

Fees: $10 registration fee to be refunded to registrants who follow through and attend. You must be a member of NWL to register.

Size limit: 12 registrants; with additional slots in waitlist.

More specifics on location will be distributed as the time approaches.
