This little soil crust in the photo gallery, marked LABE-283, is over growing moss on soil, in sagebrush steppe and looks to be fruticose. All spot tests are negative including UV and I. The stalks run from .4 to 2mm in length. Could this possibly be an Aspicilia?

    Thanks all.

    HI Steve,

I think you're right and it is an Aspicilia. But you probably can't go much farther than that! It would be in the A. reptans group that Bruce and a student Joe are working on and there seem to be lots of spp that look similar.

    best, daph
