Hi everyone! Just wanted to get a second set of eyes on this lichen I picked up from the Salt Creek Campground up in Clallam County last month. This was found at the Tongue Point picnic area, the trees in that area are less than 10m from the Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Here are the coordinates for anyone interested: 48°09'58.17"N 123°42'20.81"W
I performed acetone tests with the following results: K+Y, C+pink, P+Y (i performed the P test on the thallus and as an acetone extract).
Key couplets starting from the Bryoria with Sulcaria Key in the third edition of Bruce and Linda's Macrolichens of the PNW:
Bryoria, with Sulcaria: 1b, thallus pendant; 2b, soredia absent; 3b, thallus not strongly bicolored... Group 4
Group 4: 19a, acetone extract K+Y; 20b, acetone extract K+Y, C+Pink; 22b, thallus not deeply fissured and P+Y; 23b, thallus P+Y; 24a, thallus with frequent side branching and found on exposed coastal trees... Sulcaria spiralifera var. pseudocapillaris
I have included photos in situ, ex-situ without magnification, and photos of the side branching, and elongate pseudocyphellae. It is hard to see in these photos but it has a reddish/purple hue that's easy to see with the naked eye.
Any help, feedback, confirmation, or comments would of course be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks everyone,
Elise
