I don't think I have heard of lichen substances inhibiting slime molds, but seems to be what's happening! Makes sense from their well known inhibitions of bacteria and fungi.
Interesting! Yes I think that's due to the chemical defense.
But probably not due to the common lichen acids. Normally they only need a small amount of toxins for the defense.
