    Hi All,

Are all Sphaerophorus I+ purple or just S. globosus (except S. fragilis)? Also will S. tuckermanii and S. venerabilis grow on serpentine soil, rather than bark and wood?

Not sure about the I reactions. But it would be very unlikely for Sphaerophorus on that substrate.

Steve, Is it by any chance a Stereocaulon? They look kind of similar to Sphaerophorus and could be on soil.

    Daph,

It's defiantly Sphaerophorus, my only problem is I collected something I though was a fruticose Cladonia on soil, at least that is what I wrote in my book. When I removed the contents of the sack, the only fruticose sample was this Sphaerophourus. I remember pulling something off the soil, I don't remember getting something off a tree.
